A Kansas native, Chelsea grew up with her head in the clouds and feet planted firmly in the dirt. She earned her BA in Theatre Arts Studies with an emphasis in Playwriting and minor in English from Brigham Young University in 2013.
Her work has premiered across the country in community theaters, university productions, and at regional competitions. Her ten minute play, The Shoelace, was the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region VIII Finalist and National Semi-Finalist in 2013 for the Ten Minute Play competition, making it one of the top 16 ten minute plays in the country. It also received three national awards from the Kennedy Center after its production at the Los Angeles Theatre Center in 2014: Distinguished Production of a New Work, Distinguished Direction of a New Work, and Distinguished Ensemble Performance of a New Work.
Chelsea's also well versed in devised theatre. She's been a performance writer and script writer for several BYU productions: Women of Faith (2012), Gone Missing and the Cleverest Thief (2012), and A Wrinkle in Time (2013). She was also the script writer for The V Project, an interactive devised theatre piece exploring real life stories from women in Utah County (2015).
Chelsea is currently pursuing her MFA in Creative Writing and Writing for the Performing Arts at University of California, Riverside. Her one act play, Mercy Meal, premeired as part of UCR's New Play Festival in 2016. She looks forward to her new full length play, The Riveters, being performed as part of UCR's New Play Festival in 2017.
Inspired by women's issues, family dynamics, mental illness, and Mormonism's modern voice, she hopes the stage will facilitate a platform on which any individual can find his or her story as her characters live theirs.
